The Fight Against Child Abuse

Introduction to Child Abuse

Did you know that new York alone, 59 children were killed, 273 suffered broken bones, and 5,927 received bruises and laceration allegedly as the result of child abuse in 1995? Child abuse is when an intentional use of physical force on intentional omission of care to be hurt, maimed, or killed. And some states have broadened their statutory definitions of abuse to specifically include emotional of mental injury. Studies show that most child-abusing parents were also abused themselves when when they were young. Some researchers say that abusing parents have infantile personality. Others say they realistically expect their children to fulfill their psychological needs. And if their disappointed they experience severe stress and become violently angry and abusive.

SEXUAL ABUSE: Sexual abuse isn't the most common abuse against children. Nine percent of all child abuse cases is sexual abuse. Sexual abuse includeds using the child to meet the adult's sexual needs, fondling, rape, sodomy and using the child in pornographic pictures or films.

PHYSICAL ABUSE: So many children suffer from physical abuse. Lisa marie Scruggs died before she was 3 years old, beaten to death by her stepfather. Lisa Steinberg who was six years ole and in the first grade was beaten and thrown against a wall by her adoptive father. These two sad and unnecessary is an example of a rather normal, but horrible, cases of abuse. No one knows exactly how many children die each year from physical abuse There are many kids in the world today who have to live with abuse and maybe even die from the abuse they encounter. A mother at the age of 19 is accused of breaking the ribs of her 5 month old son to stop crying. At the age of 5 months a little baby does not know of his wrong doing, he is just wanting a little love and compassion from the only person he loves and cares. At this age a child does not automatically know what to do in life, he has to be guided and show the right path and to grow up in a respectful manner. In society today we do not realize how we disregard child abuse. We stereotype child abuse on T.V with having a perfect family. In the real world there are lots of families with problems, we do not live in a perfect society. The T.V today doesn't show the problems that some of our families have, and the help that they need to eliminate these problems.

NEGLECT: Child abuse, a word many people are afraid to hear. Many times when someone hears those words they immediately think physical and sexual abuse. There are many other types of abuse, a very important one is NEGLECT. Sixty percent of al cases is neglect, most of these cases deal with parents having drug and alcohol problems. These parents don't care about their children they care more about their addiction. In the world today about 1/6 of the children no live in a state of poverty, in the U.S., abot 14 million live below the state of poverty.
